Petricoff Named Co-Director of Capital University Law School’s Midwest Center for Energy Law and Policy
M. Howard Petricoff, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office, has been selected as a co-director of Capital University Law School’s newly formed Midwest Center for Energy Law and Policy. According to Capital University, the center’s aim is to promote the study of Ohio’s energy laws and regulation. It will function as a neutral forum for discussion about how to balance the demand for energy resources and its associated economic benefits with the demand to reduce the environmental impacts of such activities. In addition, the center will help the public engage in an inclusive and informed examination of the issues associated with Ohio’s emergence as an energy state and what regulatory response ought to result.
Columbus Business First had a story about the center titled “Capital University Law School making Utica shale play with new energy law center.” Petricoff was quoted throughout the story regarding the need for a go-to place for legal research on the Utica shale play.
The story states:
“Ohio has been a marginal player in oil and gas development, Petricoff said, but that is changing because of the size of oil and natural gas reserves in the Utica play. He expects development of the Utica to raise new legal issues as well as provide job opportunities for law school graduates.
‘If this all comes to pass, the center will be very busy,’ said Petricoff, who has been an adjunct professor at Capital Law for eight years.”
