Airey Featured in Columbus Business First Article Regarding Ohio Shale Drilling
W. Jonathan Airey, a partner in the firm’s Columbus office, was featured in a Columbus Business First article entitled “Ohio shale drilling creates opportunities for law firms’ energy practices.” The article, which appeared in the December 9, 2011 edition of the newspaper, was about the plethora of legal matters associated with oil and gas drilling and production related to the Utica shale.
The article states: “‘It’s in the early stages, but there is a great deal of enthusiasm,’ said Jon Airey, partner at Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease LLP.”
"A September economic study from the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program, which is funded by the industry, estimates more than 204,000 people will be employed in jobs related to Utica shale exploration by 2015. The study projects producers will spend more than $34 billion by 2015 on exploration, development, royalty and lease expenses. 'That is a huge economic boom to the eastern part of the state,' Airey said. 'The potential amounts of oil and gas liquid that can be produced are game changing for Ohio.'"
