Congressman Dave Hobson Joins Vorys
Congressman Dave Hobson (R-OH) will join Vorys Advisors LLC, a wholly owned affiliate of the law firm, Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, on Feb. 2, 2009. Congressman Hobson will be the president of Vorys Advisors, which will provide business and strategic counsel to the law firm’s clients and other Ohio businesses. Congressman Hobson, who recently retired after representing Ohio's 7th District for 18 years, will work from Vorys’ Columbus office.
“We are pleased to have someone of Congressman Hobson’s extraordinary passion and expertise join the Vorys team,” said Russell M. Gertmenian, managing partner of Vorys. “His experience and dedication to the people of Ohio are unparalleled. His lengthy career in public service and business has been characterized by hard work to improve the environment, promote economic development, strengthen national defense and expand access to quality health care and education. He has made a significant difference in the lives of Americans; now he will share his experience with our firm and our clients.”
During his Congressional tenure, Congressman Hobson served as chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and as a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. In those positions, he worked to secure funding for water and sewer infrastructure projects to provide Ohioans with access to clean water sources; high-tech research and development programs to help transform and strengthen the economy and create jobs; and the cleanup of nuclear sites in Ohio to help improve the environment.
Congressman Hobson also worked to support the needs of U.S. troops by ensuring that they receive fair pay, benefits, housing and quality health care. Additionally, he fought to make sure the U.S. military has the resources it needs to defend American interests around the world and to protect and create jobs at Ohio bases, including Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the Springfield Air National Guard Base, the Defense Supply Center Columbus and Rickenbacker Airport.
“It is an honor to become associated with a premier firm like Vorys,” said Congressman Hobson. “The firm has had an outstanding practice in Ohio for nearly a century, and I look forward to working collaboratively with my new colleagues to advance the business goals of our clients.”
Congressman Hobson continued in Congress the work he began during his service in the Ohio Senate from 1982 to 1990 as chairman of the Ohio Senate Health Committee. Most recently, he worked to secure funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Autism susceptibility research as well as funding for graduate medical education at children’s hospitals across the country. He also worked to reduce health care premiums for small business owners and farmers, modernize the Medicare program, improve health care for seniors and ensure fair access to immunizations for low-income children.
Congressman Hobson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law. Prior to serving in Congress, he had a successful business career and is a veteran having served overseas during the Berlin Wall crisis as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard.
