Gibson Quoted in Cincinnati Enquirer Story on Internet Defamation Lawsuit Against TheDirty.com

Whitney Gibson, a partner in the Vorys Cincinnati office and the leader of the firm’s internet defamation practice group, was quoted in a Cincinnati Enquirer story titled “Ex Ben-Gal Sarah Jones Loses Defamation Suit.”

According to the story, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit overturned an earlier decision that found a former Bengals cheerleader, Sarah Jones, was defamed. The court found that while Jones was definitely "the object of defamatory content," neither the website, nor its operator, are responsible for the third-party postings.

The story states:

“Whitney Gibson, an Internet defamation attorney with Vorys' Cincinnati office, said the ruling illustrates how outdated and overly broad the CDA is.

The way the law is written, ‘victims of online reputation attacks are often left without any recourse, any way to recover their damages, and worse, without any way to even remove defamatory comments about them from the Internet,’ he said.”
