Havens Quoted in Columbus Dispatch Story Titled “Appeals Courts at Odds over Insurance Subsidies”

Jolie Havens, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and the chair of the health care group, was quoted in a Columbus Dispatch story about two court decisions related to tax credits some individuals receive when they obtain health insurance through the federal health insurance marketplace.  According to the story, the appeals-court rulings, handed down by three-judge panels in Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va., mean that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) could be in front of the U.S. Supreme Court again.  This time over the ability to offer premium tax credits to people who purchase private coverage through the federal insurance marketplace rather than through state run marketplaces.

The story states:

“The Affordable Care Act was intended to make health-coverage accessible to a much larger swath of the U.S. population, said Jolie Havens, partner and chairwoman of the health-care practice at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP.

‘Taking away those subsidies in the vast majority of states would dramatically undercut that,’ she said.”
