Schimmer Appointed to Uniform Law Commission
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is proud to announce that Alexandra T. Schimmer, an associate in the Columbus office, has been appointed by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland to serve as an Ohio Commissioner on Uniform State Laws.
The Uniform Law Commission is comprised of more than 300 lawyers, judges, law professors and legislators appointed by every state to draft and promote enactment of uniform laws that are designed to solve problems common to all the states. Since its inception, the organization has promulgated more than 200 acts, among them such fundamentals of state law as the Uniform Commercial Code, the Uniform Probate Code, the Uniform Arbitration Act and the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act.
Schimmer is a member of the litigation group where she focuses on complex litigation and appeals.
She received her J.D. from the Yale Law School, her A.B. summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University, and was a Fulbright Fellow to the United Kingdom from 1998-1999. Schimmer is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association and was honored last year with the Columbus Bar Association and Columbus Bar Foundation’s award for exceptional pro bono service for her litigation work in support of the right to counsel for indigent persons in legal proceedings where certain fundamental rights are at stake.
