Stratton Quoted in Hannah Report Story Titled “Local Leaders, OhioMHAS Join for Recovery Summit”
Eve Stratton, of counsel in the Vorys Columbus office who prior to joining Vorys served as justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio for 16 years, was featured in a Hannah Report story about the Ohio Recovery Summit. Stratton was one of the summit’s featured speakers.
The story states:
“Stratton recalled the progress Ohio has seen since her initial first-hand encounter with mental health issues in criminal justice as a newly minted judge in Franklin County. ‘When I got on that bench, I saw people who had addiction issues, mental health issues, and we didn't know what to do with them. I didn't know what to do with them,’ Stratton said.
Today, she noted, Ohio has more than 200 specialized dockets and has seen several thousand law enforcement officers complete Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for responding to people in mental health crisis.
‘What do all these numbers mean for us? They meant that every one of those CIT officers ... is now somebody you can call on and know they understand your issue,’ Stratton. ‘You know that every judge who runs a specialized docket ... is going to have a community meeting and pull everyone to the table.’”
