Vorys Welcomes 12 New First-Year Associates

Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease is pleased to welcome 12 new first-year associates to the firm. Eric E. Leist, Grant T. Martin, Mairi K. Mull, Melissa R. Santiago and Thomas J. Whaling will practice in the Columbus office. Wesley R. Abrams, Brian P. Baxter, Daniel R. Bross, Emily A. Papania, Andrea B. Sager and Lauren E. Sanders will practice in the Cincinnati office. Katie L. Steiner will practice in the Cleveland office.

COLUMBUS 

Eric Leist will practice in the labor and employment group. He recently graduated from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University.  He was a member of the Moot Court Board, was a finalist in the school's Moot Court competition, and was a coach for Indiana's undergraduate mock trial teams. Upon graduation, Eric was inducted into The Order of Barristers. He has also interned for the Honorable Justice Steven David of the Supreme Court of Indiana and was a Vorys summer associate in 2016. Eric received his B.S. from The Ohio State University, where he interned for GE Aviation in Cincinnati. He also studied abroad in England.        

Grant Martin will practice in the finance, energy and real estate group. He recently graduated cum laude from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University.  Grant was on the editorial board of the Penn State Law Review and was inducted into the Woolsack Honor Society.  He also participated in two legal clinics where he assisted entrepreneurs and small business owners.  In addition, he was a legal intern for FedEx Ground and Range Resources, a natural gas producer in Pennsylvania and was a Vorys summer associate in 2016. Grant received his B.S. summa cum laude from Penn State University. 

Mairi Mull will practice in the health care group. She recently graduated from the William & Mary Law School.  Mairi served on the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review, competed on behalf of the Moot Court team and served local military veterans through the Lewis B. Puller Jr. Veterans' Benefits Clinic.  She previously worked as an extern with the legal department of Riverside Health Systems and as a summer law clerk for the Mental Health Advocacy Services of Los Angeles.  She was also a Vorys summer associate in 2016 in the Cleveland office.  Mairi graduated from the Honors Program at Cleveland State University summa cum laude with a B.A.

Melissa Santiago will practice in the coroporate group. She recently graduated from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law.  She served on the Ohio State Business Law Journal.  In addition, Melissa served full time with AmeriCorps in Columbus City Schools and also worked at a boutique immigration firm in Columbus.  She was a Vorys summer associate in 2015 and 2016.  She received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Melissa also studied at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico. 

Thomas Whaling will practice in the litigation group.  He graduated with honors from the George Washington University School of Law in 2016.  Prior to joining Vorys, Tom worked as a law clerk to the Honorable James E. Seibert, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia.  While in law school he served as an intern to the Honorable Tanya S. Chutkan, U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia.  He additionally served as an intern in the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.  Tom was also a Vorys summer associate in 2016.  Before attending law school, Tom spent a year in the AmeriCorps program teaching 6th grade students in Virginia.  He received his B.A. from Christopher Newport University.

CINCINNATI

Wesley Abrams will practice in the lititgation group.  In 2016, Wes received his J.D. summa cum laude from the Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law, where he was the executive editor-in-chief for the Northern Kentucky Law Review.  Prior to joining Vorys, he completed a U.S. District Court clerkship with the Honorable Greg N. Stivers in theWestern District of Kentucky.  Wes was a Vorys summer associate in 2015. He received his B.S. with highest honors from the University of Louisville.

Brian Baxter will practice in the corporate group.  He recently graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he received a law and business certificate and was a notes editor for the Vanderbilt Law Review.  He interned at the Brown-Forman Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, Brian was a Vorys summer associate in 2016. He received his B.S. from the University of Louisville. 

Daniel Bross will practice in the finance, energy and real estate group.  He recently graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame Law School.  He was a staff member of the Journal of College and University Law and served as a summer clerk for the Honorable Karen L. Litkovitz in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Dan also worked full time at ThinkPay, LLC and Cincinnati Draft Services.  Dan was a Vorys summer associate in 2016. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from The Ohio State University. 

Emily Papania
Emily will practice in the labor and employment group.  She recently graduated from the George Washington University Law School with honors.  She has studied abroad at the University College of London in London, England and interned with a number of political campaigns.  Emily was a Vorys summer associate in 2016.  She received her B.A. magna cum laude from George Washington University.

Andrea Sager will practice in the litigation group.  She recently graduated from Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law where she was a member of the inaugural Lunsford Academy. Andrea was a Vorys summer associate in 2016.  She received her B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pikeville. 

Lauren Sanders will practice in the labor and employment group. In 2016, she received her J.D. magna cum laude from the Duke University School of Law, where she was the executive editor of the Duke Journal of Gender Law & Policy. Prior to joining Vorys, Lauren completed a U.S. District Court clerkship with the Honorable Charles R Simpson III in the Western District of Kentucky.  She also worked as a Vorys summer associate in 2015.  She received her B.A. summa cum laude from Duke University.

CLEVELAND

Katie Steiner will practice in the litigation group.  She recently graduated cum laude from Case Western Reserve University, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Case Western Reserve University Journal of International Law.  Katie worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Frick Collection in New York.  She also interned in the Office of the Legal Counsel at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.  Katie was a Vorys summer associate in 2016. Katie received her B.A. summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University and her M.A. from Williams College.
