Smith Elected as Vice President of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys
Vorys is pleased to announce that Elizabeth T. Smith, a partner in the firm’s Columbus office, was selected as vice president of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys (OACTA). She was elected at the OACTA’s annual meeting on November 9. Smith also co-chairs OACTA’s litigation & trial skills committee.
OACTA is an organization of attorneys, corporate executives and managers who devote a substantial amount of their time to the defense of civil lawsuits and the management of claims against individuals, corporations and governmental entities. Its mission is to promote fairness, excellence and integrity in the civil justice system by providing resources and education to attorneys and others dedicated to the defense of civil actions. OACTA is Ohio’s local Defense Research Institute organization.
Smith has over 35 years of varied and broad experience in the courtroom, in complex discovery and before governmental administrative bodies. Her practice includes business, commercial, contract, occupational disease, environmental and toxic torts, ethics, education, governance, medical marijuana and public law litigation. Smith has argued in various state appellate courts, the Ohio Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Smith is also a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio Women’s Bar Association, the Women Lawyers of Franklin County and the Defense Research Institute (DRI). In addition, she was recently appointed to serve on the Board for the Unauthorized Practice of Law.
