Client Alert: Massachusetts Amends Data Security Regulations and Extends Compliance Deadline

On August 17, 2009 the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) announced that it has amended its regulations to protect personal information of residents of the Commonwealth, 201 CMR 17.00 (“Data Security Regulations”). The Data Security Regulations were to be effective as of January 1, 2010, but with this latest amendment the compliance deadline has been extended to March 1, 2010.
